Halftime Activities

xx
At the halftime of the Saturday, Sept. 10 football game, Hampden-Sydney Alumni who were also World War II veterans were honored. They were presented, as a group, with a Patrick Henry Public Service Award in recognition of the sacrifices made by those who served.

John L. Brinkley '59, H-SC Professor of Classics, described WWII's impact on H-SC and the contributions of its sons to the war effort. Speaking on behalf of the College, he thanked the veterans for their service. Hampden-Sydney College President Walter M. Bortz III presented the Patrick Henry award to a representative of the veteran group gathered on the football field. H-SC's own bagpipers, Dr. Stanley Cheyne and Dr. Kevin Dunn played as they led the veteran's group onto the field for the ceremony, and followed them off at its conclusion.
