Leadership Farmville

Leadership Farmville Class of '08
The Leadership Farmville class of 2008 gathers at its commencement dinner and program at Longwood University.
Purpose
  • Create an expanding pool of people who will be leaders in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
Objectives
  • Help participants develop their own leadership potential by educating them about the role and workings of government, education and volunteer community service.
  • Unite community residents from diverse backgrounds to ensure the tapestry of partnership is woven with all threads so the quilt of common purpose is the truth, is durable, and comfortably fits.
  • Provide allies for those who already hold elective or appointive office. Those who understand the process of government and how a community functions will be more likely to respond effectively to the reality of challange and potential.
  • Explain the relationship the community has with the region, the state and the federal government so that challenges and solutions, answers and understandings, are complete, not partial.
Participants
  • A maximum of eighteen people will be selected from those who apply, based on information provided by the applicants and from references. Applicants may be interviewed to ensure that each class contains the kind of diversity of talent and experience needed to make the program successful. Those chosen will be expected to dedicate themselves to the program and be prepared to give their time, intellect, and energy. What is derived from the program will be directly dependent on how much each participant puts into Leadership Farmville. It is an honor to be chosen to participate. Participants will be expected to respond like leaders.
Program
  • Leadership Farmville is a seven-month program, now offered every other year, with sessions devoted to a variety of government, education, economic development, and community service subjects, which affect community growh and quality of life.
Tuition
  • Tuition is generally less than $100, and is used to defray expenses and may be paid by the employer or the participant. Tuition fees will be collected at the first session. Please make checks payable to Leadership Farmville.
Placement
  • Those who graduate from Leadership Farmville will form the nucleus of the community's future. They will probably be eligible to join the alumni association, which will compile and maintain a list for organizations of persons who are ready and willing to lead the community in ways which are unique to each person's individuality.
