Military Leadership and National Security Studies
The program is designed for students who are interested in the historical, political and ethical dimensions of national security policy as well as the place and role of the military in American society.
"The aim of this interdisciplinary program is to prepare students to think about military action and national security policy in the context of constitutional principles, inter- and intra-governmental relationships, social and cultural constraints, and competing views of ethical human behavior." - Dr. David E. Marion, Wilson Center Director

Program Director Dr. James Y. Simms, Jr. accepts the 2009 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from President Walter M. Bortz III, at Commencement. He also received the Senior Class Award. Story and pictures...

Electives include classes in U.S. national intelligence, American foreign policy, public speaking, world religions, organizational psychology and the history of American foreign relations.

"The new military leadership and national security studies program will complement and extend existing leadership education at Hampden-Sydney College. The program will broaden our reach from non-profit and governmental areas to the military and national security arena. We believe that this will make our graduates better able to understand and meet the serious challenges of the 21st Century." - Dr. Earl W. Fleck, Provost and Dean of the Faculty
Students may apply for admission to the program during the fall semester of their sophomore year. For more information, contact Dr. Simms at the Wilson Center.
