Dr. James Simms Receives Award

Dr. James Y. Simms, Jr. accepts the
Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from
President Walter M. Bortz III.


Dr. James Y. Simms, Jr. received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan award at commencement exercises on May 10, 2009. This award is given to persons who have been "conspicuously helpful to the institution in its efforts to encourage and preserve a high standard of morals."

Prof. Simms also was the recipient of the Senior Class award, which is given to a member of the college community "who in the eyes of the Class members has contributed during their four years most significantly to the College, its students, and the community."

Dr. Simms' daughter, Edith Simms, hosted a reception for him at the Wilson Center following commencement. Many well-wishers came by; some are pictured below and on the next page. more photos
