John MacLean Boswell '65
John M. Boswell graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1965 and was one of five men in his immediate family that attended this institution, including his father, father-in-law, brother, and his son. He attended University of Richmond T. C. Williams School of Law. While at Hampden-Sydney, Jack was President of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity for three years and served the Inter-Fraternity Council. Jack was a member of the German Club, the Tiger staff, the Student Honor Council, the President's Council and the Student-Faculty Relations Committee. More recently Jack has served on the Parent's Council and was High Pi to the re-colonization attempt of Lambda Chi Alpha on campus, and is presently a member of the Board of Advisors to the Wilson Center for Leadership in the Public Interest. He has assisted the Wilson Center in drafting by-laws for the Board and has been dependable consultant to the Directors of both the Public Service and the National Security Studies Programs. Jack opened a law practice in Crewe, Virginia, and has been in practice for over 44 years. His current law partner, J. Larry Williamson, also graduated from Hampden-Sydney. Jack has served as General Counsel for Southside Electric Cooperative for 40 years. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Crewe-Burkeville Youth Recreation Association for 23 years. Jack has been a member of the Board of Directors of Southside Community Hospital, Fuqua School, and Piedmont Court Services. He was one of the founding fathers of The ALMS House, a community food pantry and shelter and donated a building for that purpose. In 2007, Jack founded and presently manages the Medical Foundation of Burkeville, Inc., an organization developed to sustain the local medical practice and to provide medical coverage, including prescription drugs, for those in the community who cannot afford them. The Medical Foundation has slowly grown and Jack is responsible to a Board of Directors of seven individuals whose current plans are to secure a permanent location and to retain the services of a traveling nurse.
