The College was named for English patriots John Hampden (1594-1643) and Algernon Sydney (1622-1683).

Attention Civil War Buffs!
The Military Leadership and Nation Security Studied Program at the Wilson Center will sponsor a "Staff Ride" around the battlefield of Gettysburg this coming fall. As its director, I am very excited about providing the Hampden-Sydney alumni the opportunity to tour the battlefield of Gettysburg with a real specialist on the battle.
Our guide for the "Staff Ride" will be Captain Steven W. Knott (USN) '82, who is an instructor at the Army War College in Carlisle, PA and specializes in the Civil War battles of Gettysburg and Antietam. Capt. Knott gave a lecture at H-SC this January and it was an outstanding presentation. As a result, we have asked him to conduct a "Staff Ride" of the battle of Gettysburg for H-SC alumni. He readily agreed. He has conducted numerous rides while at the War College for visiting foreign military officers as well as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. This should be a great experience for all.
Cost: approximately $500 which will cover:
1. Cost of the charter bus from Farmville
2. Two nights stay in hotel
3. Stipend for guide
4. Additional member of a family will be approximately $300
Meals will be on your own. This is limited to the first 30 alumni.
Possible dates are weekends in September 1-2, 15-16, 29-30 or October 6-7 or 20-21. If interested, please call, email or contact us with the attached information form.
