Fulbright Scholar in Residence

Students, faculty, staff and area high school students were the beneficiaries of a semester-long residency by Dr. Jan Skaloud, an internationally known political scientist from the Czech Republic. He came as part of the Fulbright Scholars Program in the spring of 1999. In addition to teaching courses and making special presentations, Dr. Skaloud immersed himself in the experience of being here. He lived on campus, ate in the dining hall and attended nearly every cultural event on campus. He visited area churches and took several weekend trips to historical sites on the east coast. Dr. Skaloud became an ardent fan of Hampden-Sydney basketball, got to know other fans, and rarely missed a home game. His semester at Hampden-Sydney was both productive and memorable!
