Thornton Named Fulbright Scholar
Dr. Saranna R. Thornton, Elliott Associate Professor of Economics at Hampden-Sydney College, has been named a
Fulbright Scholar for 2006-2007. Dr. Thornton will teach graduate level courses in International
Finance, International Economics, International Finance and Capital Operation, and Risk Management
at Beijing Institute of Technology in Beijing, China.
The Fulbright Scholar Program, sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational
and Cultural Affairs, sends U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year to lecture and conduct research
in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
Dr. Thornton received her B.A. from Colby College, M.P.A. from the University of Texas, and Ph. D. from
Carnegie Mellon University. She joined the Hampden-Sydney faculty in 1996.
