DR. JAMES C. KIDD, BARGER PROFESSOR OF MUSIC
FOLLOWING the 27th season of the
Hampden-Sydney College Music Festival in
2008, Barger Professor of Music James C.
Kidd, who was instrumental in the formation of
the Festival, will be stepping down as executive
director. He came to the College in 1981 with
a bachelor’s degree from Williams College, an
M.Mus. degree from Northwestern University,
and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He
continues to accompany the Hampden-Sydney
College Men’s Chorus, including during the
group’s trip to Italy for Spring Break of 2006,
and in the fall he gave a lecture on Beethoven’s
9th Symphony to students in the Western
Culture course.
