PROGRAM
Study communications, economics, and business at University College in Dublin, Ireland.  Program is open to students with a 2.0 GPA or higher who have taken ECON 101 and RHET 101, or their equivalents.

COURSES OF INSTRUCTION
Business 263: The International Business Enviornment (3 credits) Prerequisite: ECON 101
Business 285: Organizational and Cross-Cultural Communication (3 credits) Prerequisite: RHET 101
Economics 209:  Topics in Poltical Economy (3 credits) Prerequisite: ECON 101
INDS 285: Textual Analysis (3 credits) -- For VCU students only

The program will include:  

  • Onsite Orientation Programs in Dublin.  Local transportation passes provided.
  • Accommodation and classes at University College, Dublin (UCD). UCD is located on an idyllic suburban campus about 2.5 miles from the center of Dublin and close to shops, restaurants, and cafes.
  • Free internet access on UCD campus and in apartment suites. Bringing a laptop is strongly recommended.
  • UCD amenities include a well-appointed fitness center, Olympic-size pool, and extensive parkland
  • Academic and cultural visits, including a financial walking tour, Dublin literary tour, a theatre performance, and visits to the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin Castle and the Chester Beatty Library, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the historic Kilmainham Jail, and the Guinness Storehouse exhibition.   

ACCOMMODATIONS and MEALS
Students will live in shared apartment suites on the UCD campus and in shared hotel rooms during the program excursion.  Meals included in the program costs are breakfast and lunch at the UCD cafeteria during weekdays and three group meals.

FLIGHTS
Flights are not included in the estimated cost, but will be included in most students' final cost.  Once the size of the group has been determined, the Office of Global Education will organize a group flight for the program. All students are encouraged to join the group flight and must work with Dr. Widdows to make any alternative arrangements.  Faculty will accompany students on the group flight.

PASSPORTS and VISAS
Students will need a valid passport to leave the U.S.; the passport must be valid for at least the duration of the program.  Students who do not already have a passport or need to renew theirs are advised most strongly to apply for one as soon as they are accepted to the program as it can take approximately eight weeks to receive it.  For more information, please review the State Department's webiste: http://travel.state.gov

HEALTH and SAFETY
Students are advised to schedule an appointment with their primary care physician or health provider several weeks before departure to obtain any recommended and/or required vaccines or immunizations.  Students are responsible for ensuring that all routine travel and immunizations are up-to-date. COST
Estimated cost will be announced in November and will cover two courses, medical insurance, housing and some meals.  Estimated cost does not include airfare, textbooks, some meals, or personal expenditures.  Final cost will depend on the number of participants and will include airfare.  Estimated cost  is based on minimum number of 21 students.
