Ideally
students will take several courses across the humanities
(including philosophy and religion). Since this is not always feasible,
students should be guided by the following considerations:
- Interest - many philosophy courses do not have prerequisites
and are appropriate for any student.
- Preparation for their major - philosophy courses are ideal
complements to many majors. The odd philosophy course can
stimulate interest and performance in the major of their choice.
- Preparation for an intended career - philosophy courses are
typically skill oriented and not content oriented. As a
result they can help students develop success skills in most
careers.
Most importantly: Please encourage your advisees to browse through the Department
web pages and speak with the members of the Department.
