Checkout of the Department's New Radio Telescope Begins

The Department's new radio telescope with a digital receiver has been installed and is in the process of being aligned and calibrated. The telescope features an on-board noise calibration device that will be used in conjunction with observations of known radio objects to help with the calibration of this instrument. Dr. Steve Bloom has been working on this for a few weeks and already has been able to produce a contour map of the Sun which is shown below.
