Group Study Tips
vDivide tasks for group study members.
Have each member be responsible for particular chapter outlines, test questions,
or study guides. The more pre-work that is done before the session, the
more productive the session will be.
vNote check: compare notes with a partner
- Summarize the most important information together
- Identify and clarify discrepancies
vPick 3 interesting facts you
have learned from the lectures
- Each share your new insights
- Pick one and create a mnemonic
- Share mnemonic with group
vThink. Pair. Share. Repeat. (Try to stump
your group)
- Think of a possible test question
- Get together with another group member
- Share thoughts, information, and/or additional
questions
vCharades and Pictionary are a great way to
quiz each other before the exam. Movement and visual clues will aid in the
retrieval of the info. Humor will also increase the chance that you will
remember the concept or the character being acted out.
vAvoid mindless repetition of facts
- attach meaning to concepts
- connect to previous knowledge; compare the concept to
something you already know
- come up with several examples of your own
vQuestions in a hat.
Have each group member come to the study session with 5-10 possible test
questions that they believe will challenge the other group members. As you
select the questions from the hat, review the answers. Look up any
questions that you are unsure of to avoid misinforming the group.
