Most recently, he had served as manager of the City of Danville since 2008. Mr. Lacy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, boating, hunting and fishing, and telling stories. He is remembered for his integrity, modesty, humility, and fairness. Mr. Lacy is the son of the late Dr. Matthew L. Lacy II ’41, the brother of John W. Lacy ’75, and the father of Matthew Lyle Lacy IV ’96.

He was a former owner of Doyne-Burger Funeral Home, which was originally established as Doyne Funeral Home in 1838 by his great-grandfather. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He was a charter member and former president of the Farmville Rotary Club, a member of the Prince Edward Historical Society, and the Farmville United Methodist Church. Mr. Doyne and his wife Ruth were known for their beautiful rose gardens. Together they established the Southside Rose Society.
