Gentlemen:

Can you believe it is time for our 20th class reunion?

This year our reunion will be held on Saturday, October 11 and is designed to be a bit more informal and fun – focusing on the large number of alumni who return for game day.  There are some Friday activities for those in our class who wish to arrive early.  Here is the schedule:

The Second Annual Homecoming Golf Tournament (open for all alumni, parents, friends and especially reunion class attendees) will begin at 9:30 Friday morning, October 10, at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville.  For alumni, parents, and friends who prefer tennis to golf, the Thirtieth Annual Thompson Tennis Challenge will take place at 1 p.m. at the Varsity Courts on campus.  All details will be contained in the 2008 Homecoming Brochure; you should register for these events by calling the Alumni Office at (434) 223-6776 at your earliest convenience.

The 1988 class reunion activities will begin on Saturday morning, October 11 when President Bortz will greet alumni and friends at a coffee reception in the Hampden-Sydney Library at 8 a.m.  A special faculty presentation (very popular last year) will begin at 9 a.m. at Settle Hall.  Each reunion class (other than the 40th and the 45th) will have a specially designated class tent alongside College Road near Cushing and our Founders Lot. Our class reunion begins at 10 a.m. and is designed to be informal – casual dress and family oriented.  The $35 class reunion registration fee (children under 12 free) will include tickets to the Homecoming Luncheon near the tents, class gifts (t-shirts, caps, and cups), special reserved seating at Everett Stadium for the Emory & Henry game beginning at 1 p.m., and access to a new post-game party.

We will have a tented party open to all students, alumni, parents, and friends after the football game against Emory and Henry College.  To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic movie Animal House, we have booked Otis Day and the Knights.

You won’t want to miss our 2008 Homecoming Weekend, and a great day back on the Hill.
Please respond quickly by fax or mail to the Alumni Office using the Reunion Registration Form. Include your credit card information or check. Please meet the registration deadline of Friday, October 3, 2008.

I look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,

P.S. Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Lucas ’59 have graciously donated a 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible that will be raffled at half-time.  The car is older than our ‘63 class. At 61,000 actual miles, it is lower mileage than many of us. Its all original equipment is more than some of us can claim. So, buy a chance or two.
