When he grew up, he did even more. And so can you.
Edgar Graham Gammon '05 was an exemplary
student-athlete, who became a Presbyterian
minister but retained his youthful good humor,
love of sport, and zeal for raising money for
worthy causes. He capped his career with a
long and successful term as President of
Hampden-Sydney College.
What is the Gammon Society? Named in recognition of his lifelong
youthful zeal for his alma mater, the
Gammon Young Founders Society honors
graduates from the last 10 years who give an
annual gift to
Hampden-Sydney College. Based on the number of years out, following are the Gammon giving levels: 1-3 years — $250 - $499,
4-6 years — $500 - $749,
7-10 years — $750 - $1,499.
This is half the amount
required for older Founders. Recognizing that,
while you are newly out of school, your resources
may not yet be commensurate with your good
will, the College has established this giving-society
level to honor those who wish to give substantially
even as they embark upon their career.
Why should I become a Young Founder? When you become a Young Founder, you receive
all of the same benefits as regular Founders:
- A parking pass to the Founders lot at home
football games
- An invitation to Founders Weekend
- Special messages from the President on the state
of the College
- Advance invitations to important events at
Hampden-Sydney College
The best reason, however, to become a Young
Founder is simply the fact that you are helping our
current students receive the best possible education.
Think back to what Hampden-Sydney taught
you. Your time on the Hill would not have
been nearly as rich or rewarding were it not
for the generosity of others who passed
through the gates before you.
What are my options for paying?
You can support the College in a number of
different ways:
- Credit Card
- Make your American Express, VISA or MasterCard gift
online.
- A popular option is to authorize a monthly debit on your check card
or credit card.
- Check
Make your check or checks payable to
Hampden-Sydney College and use the enclosed
business reply envelope to send in your
postage-paid gift.
- Matching Gifts
The Gammon Society, like all of the College’s
giving societies, will honor matching gifts made
by contributors’ employers. If your employer
matches charitable gifts, you pay only $375
when you send in your matching gift form. If
your employer matches charitable gifts and you
spread your payments out over 12 months, a
Young-Founders-level gift will cost you only $31.25
per month. If your company does not match gifts,
you still pay only $62.50 per month to become a
Young Founder at the entry level.
- Stock Gifts
Giving appreciated stock may be more advantageous
than giving cash. Federal tax law offers special
incentives for gifts of non-cash property. To make a gift
of appreciated securities, call the Office of Institutional
Advancement at (800) 865-1776.
How will my gift to the Hampden-Sydney Fund be used?
Gifts to the Hampden-Sydney Fund are used, along with tuition
and room and board, to pay for the operating costs of
the College. That money is used to cover financial aid,
faculty salaries, athletic equipment and any other
operating costs the College incurs on an annual basis.
Quite simply, the Hampden-Sydney Fund helps underwrite the
“the atmosphere of sound learning” of the College.
Why should I support Hampden-
Sydney College?
When you make a financial contribution
you help ensure that our students receive
the best possible education—inside and
outside the classroom. Your Young
Founders donation is a significant gift. It
not only helps the College maintain its
outstanding quality; it helps it to move
forward by providing even more and
better opportunities for our students.
You will help our students and help to
increase the value of your diploma.
As a graduate of Hampden-Sydney
College you are now a shareholder in its future. And
the future of Hampden-Sydney is precisely what we care enough to
make of it.
