Tigers Win VaSID Men's Sports Survey, Place Second Overall (July 14, 2010) NEWPORT NEWS, VA--From start to finish Hampden-Sydney athletics had an outstanding year with not one losing record, compiling an overall record of 90-37-1 (70.3%) between football, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse and tennis. Hampden-Sydney's winning percentage was the best in the men's division in the recent Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey. The survey ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage. The 70.3% winning percentage was helped in great part by football, soccer, and lacrosse who all had their best records in program history. This past year marked the highest winning percentage in school history while it marks the first time Hampden-Sydney has won the men's division. While winning the men's division, the Tigers finished second overall, trailing behind Christopher Newport, which won 72% of all of its contests.  | | Senior William Moss was named the ODAC's top male scholar-athlete. | Moss Named Jopson Winner (June 11, 2010) SALEM, VA--A pair of student-athletes were honored with the league's highest honors on Thursday afternoon at the annual Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Board of Directors meetings. Rebecca Bradford, a senior volleyball standout from Virginia Wesleyan College, was awarded the 2010 Marjorie Berkley Scholar-Athlete Award as the top female student-athlete in the conference. Fellow senior and Hampden-Sydney College men’s tennis star, William Moss garnered the 2010 Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Scholar-Athlete Award as the league's top male student-athlete. Inaugurated in 1984 and 1981, respectively, the Marjorie Berkley and Harry G. "Doc" Jopson Scholar-Athlete Awards are given each spring to member college seniors and conference sport participants who exhibit the highest athletic, academic, and extracurricular achievements. more...
 | | Senior defensive end Will Riggenbach joins Bill Doody as two preseason All-Americans heading into the 2010 season. | Doody, Riggenbach Named Preseason All-Americans (June 9, 2010) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--Senior free safety Bill Doody and senior defensive end Will Riggenbach were recently named preseason All-Americans by the Consensus Draft Services (CDS) heading into the 2010 season. Doody earned First Team honors while Riggenbach was named to the Second Team. The two helped the Tigers to one of their best seasons in 2009, capturing the program's sixth ODAC title while posting a 10-0 record for just the second time in school history. Both were also named 2009 D3football.com All-Americans. In 2009, Doody had a remarkable season being named First Team D3football.com All-American, All-Region, All-State, and All-ODAC after tying the Hampden-Sydney single season record and leading the conference in interceptions with nine while also breaking up eight other attempts. He was also fourth on the team in tackles registering 52. Riggenbach, who returns after one of the best seasons for a Hampden-Sydney defensive end, was named the 2009 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ODAC, All-State, and All-Region, and Honorable Mention D3football.com All-American. more...
 | | Spencer Medick was named his summer league team's Pitcher of the Week after guiding his team to an 8-5 win. | Medick Named River Rats' Pitcher of the Week (June 9, 2010) SANFORD, FL--Hampden-Sydney rising sophomore pitcher Spencer Medick has just been named his team's pitcher of the week in the Florida Collegiate Summer League. Medick is a member of the Sanford River Rats, who currently stand in first place of the five team league with a 3-0 mark. Medick helped his team to an 8-5 victory over the DeLand Suns by pitching three scoreless innings while striking out four, walking one, and allowing no hits. On the season, Medick is 1-0. more...
 | | Matt Brown followed up with d3baseball.com All-America honors with Third Team recognition from the ABCA. | Brown Named ABCA Third Team All-America (June 1, 2010) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--The post season accolades continue to roll in for senior third baseman Matt Brown, who has just earned Third Team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The award follows Brown's Second Team nods from d3baseball.com. Brown helped the Tigers this season to one of the best records in recent history with a 23-10-1 overall mark and 13-5 conference record. Brown has already earned Second Team All-America, First Team All-South Region and First Team All-ODAC honors while also being named a Rawlings South Region Gold Glover. Last season he was named First Team m All-ODAC, All-State and Second Team All-Region. The senior had one of the best seasons for a Tiger, twice being named the ODAC Player of the Week, while breaking Hampden-Sydney's single-season homerun (15), RBI (53), and total bases (118) records. more...
