 | | Junior catcher Zach Harrelson was nearly unstoppable at the plate going 5-for-7 with five RBI and three runs in the Tigers' two games against Guilford. | Baseball Tigers Split Double Header with Guilford (March 14, 2010) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--After dropping the first game 4-3 to Guilford College, Hampden-Sydney came back in the second game of the day with a convincing 8-1 win behind six solid innings from senior Ryan Daniel who improves to 3-2 on the year. With the split, Hampden-Sydney is now 7-6 on the year and 2-4 in the ODAC. In the first game, it was the Quakers who struck first with two unearned runs in the top of the second inning to take a quick 2-0 lead. Hampden-Sydney, however, responded in the bottom of the third as a Zach Harrelson knocked in two runs with a double to tie the score at two. Senior John West was nearly flawless through the next three frames not allowing a run, but the Tigers could not get any run support also being held scoreless. more...
 | | Senior Matt Brown was 3-for-3 with a homerun in the first game against Huntingdon. | Tigers Drop Double Header to Huntingdon (March 10, 2010) MONTGOMERY, AL--Hampden-Sydney was unable to hold on to its 1-0 lead in the first of two games as Huntingdon scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 advantage en route to the win. The Hawks also were able to take the second game 9-3. With the losses, Hampden-Sydney falls to 6-5 before returning home to continue ODAC play against Guilford College. In the first game, freshman Dan Nicoll was nearly untouchable pitching five scoreless innings while striking out five and allowing just two hits. Nicoll was given some help in the top of the fourth when third baseman Matt Brown homered to give the Tigers' their only run of the game.  | | Freshman Beau Flinchum went 3-for-4 with his first career homerun in the Tigers' 6-4 win over Piedmont. | Tigers Start Three Game Road Stretch with 6-4 Win (March 9, 2010) DOMERST, GA--Hampden-Sydney baseball remains perfect in out of conference action as it started off a three game road stint with a 6-4 win over Piedmont College. The Tigers now improve to 6-3 on the young season. Junior righty Mike Blanchard had a solid outing on the mound, picking up the win after allowing just three runs in six innings of work. Junior Kyle Grantier recorded the save by getting the final out of the game. Things looked great early for the Tigers as it took them just two batters to get on the scoreboard. After Herbie Williams got a leadoff single, freshman Laine Denton hit a double while getting the RBI. The Tigers tacked on one more run in the opening frame, while Piedmont was able to score a run in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-1 ball game. more...
 | | Sophomore Jordan Wind scored the tying run while batting in the winning run in the Tigers' 5-4 win over Bridgewater. | Tigers Split Double Header with Bridgewater (March 6, 2010) HAMDPEN-SYDNEY, VA--Hampden-Sydney opened up its home ODAC season splitting its double header with the visiting Eagles of Bridgewater College. The Tigers now stand at 5-3 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. In the first game, senior John West got the run support he needed to pitch a complete eight inning game helping his team to a 5-4 win. The senior ace was perfect through two innings before surrendering a run in the top of the third. The Tigers used the bottom of the fourth inning to pour on three runs to reclaim the lead. After a Matt Brown single brought home Zach Harrelson, freshman Laine Denton recorded two RBI on a single to put the Tigers up 3-1. Bridgewater was able to combat the Tigers with three runs in the fifth and sixth to take a 4-3 lead into the final half inning. Denton started things off with a bottom of the seventh single. more...
 | | Senior Matt Brown went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one run in the Tigers' 10-4 win over Averett. | Hot Bats Give Tigers 10-4 Win Over Averett (March 4, 2010) DANVILLE, VA--Hampden-Sydney got in a 3-1 hole at the bottom of the first inning, but racked up nine runs on 13 hits on the rest of the day to come away with a 10-4 win over USA-South foe Averett University. Junior righty Mike Blanchard put together three innings of work on the mound, striking out two, while coming away with the win. The Tigers got on the scoreboard as a Herbie Williams leadoff single quickly turned into a stolen base and advancement to third off of a wild pitch that was capped off by a sacrifice fly from shortstop Chris Martin. Averett then took a 3-1 lead after the end of the first, which it maintained after a scoreless second inning. The Tigers then used a big third inning to reestablish their lead. more...
