HOT START SPURS GREENSBORO IN 13-3 WIN OVER H-SC

Pride posts seven-spot in decisive third inning; GC takes suspended game

Box Score

GREENSBORO, NC (March 11, 2009)—Hampden-Sydney centerfielder Jordan Wind (Tappahannock, VA/Essex) reached first base on a dropped third strike, stole around to third and then came home on a throwing error by Greensboro starter Alex Phetteplace.

That sequence of events staked the Tigers a 1-0, first inning lead in their contest with Greensboro College, and served as the only series of miscues the Pride would make all afternoon.

Greensboro drew even with one run in the second then exploded for seven runs in the third to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Pride cruised the rest of way to a 13-3 non-conference victory over Hampden-Sydney (7-7).

No Tiger recorded more than one hit, but Hampden-Sydney was paced by Zeb Cope (Advance, NC/Davie County) and Nick Price (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) who each drove in one run and combined to go 2-for-4.

Thomas Fulcher went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI for Greensboro while Brad Buchman, Ryan Laboy and Micheal Parker all homered for the Pride (6-9).

Prior to their regularly scheduled game, Hampden-Sydney and Greensboro concluded their suspended game from February 26 that was tied at 11-11 in the top of the tenth.

Greensboro's Tyler O'Neill singled home the go-ahead and eventual winning run with one out in the tenth to secure the 12-11 win.

Hampden-Sydney continues its spring break road trip at Ferrum College on Thursday, March 12 at 3:00 pm.
