HARRELSON, WILLIAMS NAMED TO 2009 ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

LYNCHBURG, VA (April 27, 2009)—Hampden-Sydney sophomore catcher Zach Harrelson (Danville, VA/George Washington) and sophomore designated hitter Herbie Williams (Danville, VA/George Washington) were selected to the 2009 ODAC Baseball All-Tournament Team in the league's annual release on Sunday evening.

The fifth-seeded Tigers made an exciting run towards a third league title over the weekend, falling on Championship Sunday to eventual runner-up and No. 2 seed Virginia Wesleyan, 11-10.

Harrelson and Williams were key elements to Hampden-Sydney's extended tournament stay.

Harrelson started all four games behind the plate and went 8 for 18 with four runs and two RBI. He went 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs in Hampden-Sydney's narrow loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

For the year, Harrelson batted .348 from the third slot in a potent lineup with 19 RBI, six doubles and two triples.

Williams caused problems for opposing defenses all tournament with his blazing speed and hot bat. Hampden-Sydney's single-season leader in triples and stolen bases, Williams hit his ninth triple of the season over the weekend while stealing four bases, giving him 33 on the year. Both stats also led the ODAC in 2009.

The Tigers' leadoff man tallied at least two hits in every tournament game, finishing the weekend 9 for 19 at the plate with six runs and three RBI. In Hampden-Sydney's opening round win over the Marlins, Williams went 3 for 4 with two runs, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

Williams concluded 2009 with a .377 average, one homer and 23 RBI.

Washington and Lee pitcher Chuck Davidson earned Most Outstanding Player honors after leading the Generals to their first-ever tournament title. The Generals were seeded-sixth and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a 10-6 win over Virginia Wesleyan in the championship game.
