Basketball Coach
Larry Blunt
Larry Blunt is in his
first season as Hampden-Sydney assistant basketball coach. Blunt comes to the
Tiger program from Division II Shaw University, who competes in the storied CIAA
conference alongside national Division II powers Virginia Union and Virginia
State. Aside from his traditional assistant coaching duties, Blunt will be
charged with monitoring academic progress, assisting with weight training and
conditioning programs, and recruiting student-athletes to Hampden-Sydney.
A native of Courtland,
Virginia, Blunt was a two-year letterman in football at Elizabeth City State
University before transferring to James Madison University where he completed
his collegiate career with the Dukes. Blunt graduated from JMU in May 2005 with
a degree in Public Administration.
Upon graduation, Blunt
served as an assistant basketball coach at Eastern Mennonite University during
the 2005-06 season before leaving Harrisonburg for Raleigh, North Carolina and
Shaw University in the summer of 2006. Blunt was instrumental in all aspects of
the coaching process at Shaw, including the recruitment of an ACC and SEC
transfer to the Bears' roster.
Blunt resides in
Farmville, Virginia.
