JULY 20-24, 2008
For Boys 8-18
For Girls 8-18 Day Camp
Camp Program
Hampden-Sydney Basketball will offer one full week of camp this summer. Our five day instructional camp will consist
of teaching the fundamentals of offense, team defense, ball handling, shooting, passing, and free throw shooting. Each morning consists of stations that teach the fundamentals
of the game, followed by individual competition and five-on-five team play. Afternoon sessions consist of individual
competition, free throw shooting, and another set of five-on-five team games. All games and individual competitions
conclude with a camp championship and competition finals at the end of the week. An awards ceremony follows the camp championships on Thursday and parents are encouraged
and welcomed to attend. This is a great camp for beginners as well as for advanced skill levels. Campers will be grouped according to age and ability, both for instruction
and team play. All campers will have an opportunity to swim on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons in Hampden-Sydney’s campus pool!

Director
Dee Vick, in his sixth season with Hampden-
Sydney and first as head coach, will serve as camp director. A 1994 graduate of Hampden-Sydney, Vick was a three-year starter for the Tigers at shooting guard and helped lead H-SC to a 79-31 overall record, two ODAC championships
and two appearances in the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 during his four-year Tiger hoops career. Vick assisted
Tony Shaver at Hampden-Sydney for five seasons after graduation, guiding the Tigers to a 29-3 record and berth in the NCAA Division III national championship game in 1999. Vick went on to coach at East Carolina University, the University of South Carolina and College of Charleston before reuniting with Shaver as his top assistant at William and Mary from 2003-2008. At South Carolina, Vick served as special assistant under Dave Odom in 2001-02 and helped lead the Gamecocks to the championship game of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). As an assistant at College of Charleston, Vick played a major role in the Cougars’ 25-8 record and NIT appearance in 2002-03.
The Hampden-Sydney College Basketball Program has averaged
over 20 wins during the past fifteen seasons, and leads all Division I, II, and III programs in the state of Virginia in wins. Coach Vick looks forward to a successful summer camp in 2008!
