TIGER CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES FOURTH IN VIRGINIA STATE MEET.  

HARRISONBURG, VA – Hampden-Sydney’s cross country team took fourth place this weekend at Eastern Mennonite University in the Virginia State Meet.  The Tigers finished with a total of 105 team points behind EMU(82 points), Roanoke(34 points), and W&L(29 points).  

Freshman Matt Moore (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) continues to improve and impress as he finished the Virginia State Meet with a season best time of 29:49.47.  Moore ended the 8k race in 15th place overall with an average mile time of six minutes flat.     

After Moore, the Tigers had a pack of runners cross the finish line in 23rd, 24th, and 25th place.  Hampden-Sydney's second top scorer was freshman Nick Davis (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) finishing in 23rd place with a time of 31:03.  Pete Crowe (Boalsburg, PA/State College Area HS) followed close behind at 31:07 along with senior Ken Bradley (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) at 31:10.  These three runners improved their times by nearly two minutes from last weeks race and are peaking at the right time heading into the conference championship in two weeks.  .       

All together, the Tigers finished with a combined time of 2:36:23 balancing out to an average of 31:16.

Washington & Lee came out with another first place place finish scoring 29 total team points followed by Roanoke with 34 points.  Eastern Mennonite finished with 82 points just in front of Hampden-Sydney with 105 points while Ferrum College and Southern Virginia trailed them at 143 and 148.     

The Tigers next challenge is the ODAC Championship held on October 30, 2004 at Eastern Mennonite University.
