TIGERS FINISH FIFTH AT VWC CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (September 3, 2005)—Hampden-Sydney College’s cross country team placed fifth in the season opening Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. The Tigers were paced by freshman George Heeschen (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle), who finished 26th overall in his first collegiate event. Heeschen’s time of 32:31 over the 8k course paced the Tiger squad, followed by sophomore Matt Moore (Chesterfield, VA/Clover Hill) who finished 31st overall at 34:13. Sophomore Peter Crowe (State College, PA/State College) finished 36th at 36:26, while junior Philip Tobleman (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) gave the Tigers four runners in the top 40 as he came home in 38th at 38:34. Freshman Ben Anderson (Roanoke, VA/Faith Christian) wrapped up scoring for the team with a 43rd-place effort at 40:11. Lynchburg College won the event with a team score of 35, followed by Bridgewater (57), Eastern Mennonite (78), Virginia Wesleyan (92) and Hampden-Sydney (174).
