 TIGERS TAKE SIXTH AT MAROON INVITATIONAL

SALEM, VA (September 25, 2005) - The Tigers cross country team took home sixth-place at the Maroon Invitational at Green Hill park over the weekend. Hampden-Sydney's best effort came on the legs of sophomore Matt Moore (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) who finished in 20th place and posted a time of 29:06. in the 8k race.

The top five finishers for Hamden-Sydney ran well as the first four posted career best times. Already mentioned was Moore, followed by freshman George Heeschan (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) in 33rd at a time of 30:28, freshman Drew Tatom (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) in 38th at 31:01, and junior Phil Toblemann (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) in 39th at 31:05.

Roanoke College won the event with 37 points, followed by Southern Virginia University with 76 points, Eastern Mennonite University (82), Wittenberg University (84), Washington & Jefferson (91) and Hampden-Sydney (147). The top individual honor went to Jeff White of Southern Virginia with a time of 26:23.

The Tigers cross country squad will return to competition on October 8, 2005 in Harrisonburg, VA for the Virginia State Championships.
