Cross Country

 CROSS COUNTRY TIGERS FINISH SIXTH AT VIRGINIA COLLEGIATE

PENN LAIRD, VA (October 8, 2005)—Hampden-Sydney’s cross country team recorded its fourth top-six finish of the season Saturday as the harriers finished sixth at the Virginia Collegiate meet at the Peaks View Course near Harrisonburg, VA.  Sophomore Matt Moore (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) led the way for the Tigers with a 25th-place individual finish with a time of 31:32. 

Moore was followed by a pair of Tiger freshmen as Drew Tatom (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) finished 30th at 32:14, while George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) finished 31st at 32:24.  Sophomore Pete Crowe (Boalsburg, PA/State College Area) finished 34th with a season-best time of 33:05, while junior Phil Tobleman (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe) finished the scoring for the Tigers in 39th place with a time of 34:13. 

Washington and Lee University won the event with a team score of 29 as the Generals took three of the top four finishes individually, led by meet-winner Nathan Johnson who finished with a time of 27:32.  Roanoke College was second with a score of 54, followed by Southern Virginia University (81), Eastern Mennonite University (108), Bridgewater College (114), Hampden-Sydney (159) and Shenandoah University (186). 

The Tiger cross country team will return to the course Saturday, October 15, as the team travels to Williamsburg, VA, to compete in the William and Mary Collegiate.
