XC TIGERS FINISH SIXTH AT ODAC CHAMPIONSHIPS VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (November 1, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney's cross country team brought their regular season to a close with a solid sixth place finish at the 2008 ODAC Men's Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Virginia Beach. The Tigers ended on a strong note and continued to improve as six Tigers' recorded their best times of the season. The Tigers were led by junior Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) with a personal best time of 27:35 and a 34th place overall finish. Coming in just 20 seconds after Melvin was senior captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Ablemarle), who ran 27:55 and scored 40th. The Tigers’ third finisher was sophomore Arne Ulbrich (Grove City, PA), who ran 28:16 to finish 41st in the overall scoring. Coming in just three places behind in 44th was sophomore Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) with a time of 28:42. The two Tiger freshmen Nick Bowling (Port Orange, FL) and Josh Aiken (Metairie, LA) came in fifth and sixth for the Tigers and finished 50th and 54th with times of 30:20 and 30:54 respectively. Rounding out the Tigers was junior David Herzog (Bristol, TN/Tennessee) with a time of 34:07 and a 62nd place finish. The meet was won by Lynchburg College with Virginia Wesleyan College as a close second. Washington & Lee University, Bridgewater College, and Roanoke College, rounded out the top five teams. -www.hsc.edu/athletics-
