XC TIGERS PLACE FIFTH AT MAROON INVITATIONAL SALEM, VA (September 20, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney cross country captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) ran a personal best 27:47 to lead the Tigers to a fifth place finish at the Roanoke Maroon Invitational this past Saturday. Heeschen's time earned him eighth overall, and he was followed closely by teammate Robert Melvin (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon), who came in 2nd for the Tigers with a personal best time of 28:10, giving him a 12th place finish. Sophomore Arne Ulbrich (Grove City, PA) also had a strong showing in his Tiger debut with a time of 30:04. Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt) was another Tiger harrier to post a personal best with a time of 31:10. Bridgewater College placed first in the event scoring just 33 points with host Roanoke College coming in second scoring 56 points. Hampden-Sydney will return to action this Saturday as they host the annual 5K Family Weekend Run beginning at 9 am on the track.
