XC TIGERS PLACE TENTH AT MARLIN INVITATIONAL

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (August 30, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney cross country captain George Heeschen (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) placed 24th overall to lead the Tigers to a tenth place finish at the Virginia Wesleyan Marlin Invitational this past Saturday. Heeschen recorded a time of 29:25.1, and was followed by teammate Daniel Isaacs (Troutville, VA/Lord Botetourt), who came in 2nd for the Tigers with a time of 32:28.2. Freshman Josh Aiken (Metairie, LA) also had a strong showing in his collegiate debut with a time of 36:26.7.

Virginia Wesleyan placed first in the event scoring just 39 points. The top runner of the race was Bridgewater's Brandon Spalding with a time 27:19.2. Virginia Wesleyan's top runner Robert Aaron was just 30 seconds behind Spalding to come in second place overall.

Hampden-Sydney will return to action this Saturday as the team will participate in the Washington and Lee Invitational in Lexington, VA.
