R-MC Storms Back to Upset Tigers, Earns ODAC Title
(November 15, 2008) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--H-SC senior signal caller Corey Sedlar threw for 401 yards and two touchdowns and classmate Josh Simpson caught 12 passes for 114 yards and ran for a 16-yard score, but visiting Randolph-Macon (6-4, 4-2 ODAC) scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally from a 21-10 deficit and stun the Tigers, 31-21 on Senior Day. The Jackets' win coupled with Bridgewater's surprising upset of former ODAC leader Catholic University, gives R-MC its first league crown in nearly a decade. After falling behind 10-7 early in the third quarter, Hampden-Sydney (8-2, 4-2 ODAC) used a Sedlar to Adam Gillette 39-yard strike to take a 14-10 lead, then extended that advantage to 21-10 after Simpson's 16-yard scamper with 1:29 to play in the third period. But Macon reserve tailback Steve Matthews rumbled for two scores in the final 15 minutes, his second putting the Jackets up 24-21 with just 2:14 to play, and defensive end Tristan Carr sacked Sedlar and forced a fumble on the Tigers' final drive of the game, picking up the loose ball and sprinting 65 yards for the clinching score with 57 seconds to play. Josh Miller had a monster day at linebacker for the Tigers, with 16 total tackles, while Trevor Ikwild notched an interception. The Tigers outgained the Jackets 424-346 on the afternoon, but Macon made it count on the ground, out-rushing H-SC 158-23 en route to the win.

H-SC's Corey Sedlar completed 35-of-52 passes for 489 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers ended Huntingdon's undefeated run with a 38-34 win Saturday.
Sedlar, Sellers Lead Tigers Past Huntingdon
(November 8, 2008) MONTGOMERY, AL--Needing to bounce back after a tough conference loss two weeks ago, and with star running back Josh Simpson still hampered by a nagging injury, Hampden-Sydney's football team turned to two of its captains, senior quarterback Corey Sedlar and junior linebacker Andrew Sellers. It's safe to say that both delivered on Saturday. Behind Sedlar's 489 yards and four touchdowns through the air and Sellers' game-high 14 tackles, Hampden-Sydney (8-1) earned a satisfying 38-34 conference win over previously unbeaten Huntingdon College (8-1) in balmy Montgomery, Alabama. more...

Hampden-Sydney Inducts Hall of Fame Class of 2008
(October 31, 2008) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--The Hampden-Sydney College Athletics Department inducted its 21st class of Hall of Fame athletes last Saturday, October 25. LeHew, M.D. '57, the state-of-the-art gallery, which features two flat screen televisions and a touch-screen, interactive display, was finally unveiled to the public on Hall of Fame weekend. more...

Josh Simpson totaled 228 yards of offense and tallied three touchdowns, but Catholic still managed to upset the #18 Tigers, 33-21.
Catholic Stuns Tigers, Takes Control of ODAC Destiny
(October 25, 2008) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA--The football must have looked as big as the moon as it slowly descended upon two Hampden-Sydney defensive backs late in the third quarter with visiting Catholic University leading the Tigers 27-21. Cardinals' quarterback Keith Ricca had just popped up an errant third down pass from the Cardinals' 11-yard line deep down the sidelines toward intended receiver Ryan McManus, and two Tiger defenders rose quickly to snare the delivery with plenty of green in front of them. As quickly as Hampden-Sydney fans prepared to stand up and cheer the interception, those same fans were firmly planted in their seats, mouths agape, as the football squirted through the hands of both Tiger defenders and into the waiting arms of McManus, who sprinted the remaining 86 yards to the Hampden-Sydney 3-yard line. That play set up an eventual 7-yard touchdown pass from Ricca to McManus that put the Cardinals up 33-21 with 14:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. more...

Senior kicker T.C. Stevens nailed the go-ahead, 24-yard field goal with 5:59 remaining, and also ran his own blocked punt for a key first down late in the fourth to help the Tigers outlast Washington and Lee, 39-29.
Trio of Gillette, Sanchez, and Stevens Helps Tigers Top W&L
(October 18, 2008) LEXINGTON, VA--Hampden-Sydney head football coach Marty Favret has been the proud benefactor of several clutch performances from a variety of players thus far in the 2008 season. The same was true once again in the Tigers' 39-29 win over Washington and Lee Saturday, as representatives from the offensive, defensive and special teams units all loomed large to put No. 20 Hampden-Sydney (7-0, 4-0 ODAC) in prime position to claim its second straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference crown. Junior wide receiver Adam Gillette produced a career game, snaring a career-best nine passes for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior kicker T.C. Stevens came up huge in crunch time, drilling a 24-yard field goal at the 5:59 mark of the fourth quarter to complete Hampden-Sydney's comeback from an eight-point, second half deficit and give the Tigers a 32-29 lead they would not relinquish. Senior defensive end Zack Sanchez had a monster game on the defensive front, making ten total tackles in addition to registering one sack, three tackles-for-loss and forcing three General fumbles, the last of which set up Hampden-Sydney for the back-breaking score. more...
