FOOTBALL TIGERS ADD 50+ NEW NAMES TO 2006 ROSTER
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA
(June 8, 2006)—Hampden-Sydney College head football coach Marty Favret has
released the list of recruits set to report for the 2006 season. The
Tigers will add 51 new faces to the returning roster as the squad looks to
make a run at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship.
In order to comply with
NCAA rules, the list of recruits includes only those student-athletes who
have made deposits on tuition and are set to report in August for football
camp and classes. The list includes players from four states, including
North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia, while 44 players are in-state
recruits.
“We’re
excited about this group of student athletes and with their decision to
come to Hampden-Sydney to receive an education and play football,” said Favret.
“We have tremendous expectations
for the 2006 season and with the solid job our football staff did in
recruiting, we certainly feel that this group can help us accomplish our
goals for the coming season and the future.”
The Hampden-Sydney
football team returns 11 starters (six offense/five defense) from a 2005
team that finished 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the ODAC and led the nation in
total offense averaging better than 525 yards-per-contest.
