SEDLAR, WARE SWEEP ODAC POW AWARDS IN WEEK FOUR

H-SC duo named ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week

SALEM, VA (September 28, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney's 35-14 victory over Guilford this past Saturday displayed perfect team balance and the accolades following the conference win echo that sentiment. The Tigers swept the weekly ODAC honors as senior quarterback Corey Sedlar (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) was named Offensive Player of the Week while sophomore cornerback Michael Ware (Goochland, VA/Goochland) earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod.

Sedlar led the way amidst the absence of leading rusher and receiver Josh Simpson, throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first quarter, while completing passes to nine different receivers. His three first quarter scoring tosses helped the Tigers sprint out to a 21-0 opening period lead and covered distances of 12, 6 and 17 yards.

For the season, Sedlar boasts a 144.9 quarterback efficiency rating, ranks first in the league in touchdown passes with nine and second in passing yardage with 1,285 yards. He has also completed a league-high 67.7-percent of his passes (105-of-155).

Ware has been on fire since the outset of the season. The sophomore defensive back led all players Saturday with 11 total tackles (nine solo, two assisted) in addition to intercepting a pass and breaking up two others. Ware and the Tigers' defense surrendered just 14 points to the powerful Guilford offense and held ODAC passing leader Josh Vogelbach to no touchdown passes. Ware's interception of Vogelbach in the end zone with just minutes remaining sealed a scoreless second half for the Hampden-Sydney defense.

Ware is tied for the conference lead in both interceptions (3) and passes defended (10).

Hampden-Sydney returns to ODAC action Saturday, October 4 when it travels to Bridgewater, Virginia to square off with rival Bridgewater College at 1 pm.
