JOSH SIMPSON EARNS ODAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Tigers' senior continues to set new school, conference standards

SALEM, VA (September 8, 2008)—Hampden-Sydney senior tailback Josh Simpson (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) has been selected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his outstanding performance in the Tigers' 33-23 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon. The dynamic Simpson was at least partially responsible for all but 97 yards of Hampden-Sydney's offensive output, tallying 338 total yards and four touchdowns for the contest.

Simpson rushed for 185 yards and three scores on 31 carries while also hauling in ten passes for 153 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, which gave Hampden-Sydney a 26-16 halftime edge.

Simpson's three rushing touchdown performance gave him 45 career ground scores, placing him all alone atop the ODAC record books for all-time rushing touchdowns. The previous record of 43 was held by Emory and Henry's Oliver Jordan.

His 185 rushing yards mean that Simpson is now 1,167 yards away from becoming the most prolific rusher in Hampden-Sydney history. The all-time record of 3,771 career rushing yards is held by former Hampden-Sydney All-American, C.W. Clemmons.
