FOOTBALL TIGERS NAME 2010 CAPTAINS

Ty Condrey, Trevor Ikwild, Will Riggenbach and Ben Rogers tapped for 2010

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (February 8, 2010)—After one of the most successful seasons in program history with a 10-0 regular season, an ODAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Playoffs, head coach Marty Favret and the Tigers are now gearing up for 2010 to try and defend their title.

The four captains have been named for this upcoming fall. Two time captain and fifth-year senior Ty Condrey (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester) will be joined by seniors Trevor Ikwild (Philomont, VA/Loudon Valley) and Will Riggenbach (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) and junior Ben Rogers (Mechanicsville, VA/Hanover).

Condrey, after having to sit out nearly the entire 2008 season with a variety of injuries, was a staple on an impressive defensive line for the Tigers this past season registering 30 tackles while 6.5 of those were for loss of a combined 28 yards. He also recorded one sack for eight yards and recovered one fumble.

Ikwild, a 2009 Second Team All-ODAC selection, will be the only starting linebacker from last season to return. The Philomont, Virginia native led the team and was fourth in the ODAC with 94 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, one interception, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and eight pass break ups. Ikwild was also named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a game-high 11 tackles, including three for a loss, in the Tigers' 23-12 win over Emory & Henry.

Riggenbach put together a monster season and became one of the most decorated players on the team being named the ODAC Defensive Player of the Year while earning First Team All-ODAC, All-State, All-Region and Honorable Mention All-America honors. The defensive end broke Hampden-Sydney's single season sack record with a nation-leading 14.5 sacks (1.32 per game) for a loss of 95 total yards. He also added four more tackles-for-loss in addition to his 51 total tackles.

Rogers is not just the only rising junior named as a captain but also the only offensive player to be given the honor. The two-time First Team All-ODAC and 2009 VaSID All-State offensive lineman quickly emerged as one of the best lineman in the league. This past season, the center was an anchor for the offensive line that helped lead the way for the ODAC's leading scoring and yardage offense.

Hampden-Sydney opens the 2010 on the road as they travel to Danville, Virginia to face the Cougars of Averett University on September 4. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
