Wes Dodson
Wes Dodson returns for his second season on the Hampden-Sydney staff. Dodson
will tackle defensive coordinator duties in 2008 after serving last season as
the defensive secondary coach.
Dodson held five years of coaching experience before joining the Tiger coaching
staff in 2007. He came to Hampden-Sydney following a two-year stint at William
and Mary, where Dodson worked with safties and special teams. As a member of the
Tribe’s defensive staff, Dodson’s defense ranked fifth in Division I-AA with 19
interceptions on the season.
Dodson’s coaching career began at his alma mater, Western Michigan University,
where he was a member of the coaching staff from 2002-04. At WMU, Dodson was a
graduate assistant tabbed with the responsibility of coaching the offensive line
for two seasons and the secondary for one. In 2003, Dodson’s offensive line
contributed to WMU’s eighth-ranked passing offense at 308.4 yards-per-game.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan in 2002, where he was a
four-year letterwinner for the Broncos at safety. In 2000, Dodson was an
instrumental piece to the Western Michigan MAC-West Championship team, helping
the Broncos to several high statistical rankings, including 13th in the nation
in pass defense (178.0 ypg), ninth in total defense (283.3 ypg) and fourth in
the country in scoring defense (11.6 ppg).
Dodson is a native of Nappanee, IN and currently resides in Farmville.
