A MESSAGE FROM COACH MARTY FAVRET
It’s hard to believe I’m beginning my tenth year on ‘the Hill’ as the head football coach. With players from my earliest teams now approaching their 30th birthday, I’m taken back by how time truly flies. We are also celebrating a decade of the Hampden-Sydney Gridiron Club. As I’ve stated many times, our success on the football field has run parallel to the generous and helping hands of our loyal supporters. A scorecard of the dramatic improvements in the football program since 1999:
- Irrigation systems for both practice fields
- Planting of Bermuda grass on both practice fields
- Gammon weight room for athletes only (2002)
- New Nike game jerseys (home and away)
- Renovation of Fulton Field (2003)
- Digital cameras and state-of-the art computer software
- Film tower on practice field
- Vastly improved travel and lodging arrangements for the student/athletes
- Completion of Everett Stadium (2007)
- Completion of Kirk Athletic Center featuring:
- Brand new football locker room
- 6 meeting rooms for athletes
- Brand new offices for coaches
- Film room for staff
- Brand new training room
- Air conditioned space throughout the building
This incredible transformation, made possible almost exclusively through the help of former Tiger football players, has coincided with our 53-17 record over the past seven years. We now can lay a legitimate claim to being one of the top twenty-five football programs in the country.
Under the leadership of president, Bill Moore (’78) and backed by our devoted Advisory Board, the Gridiron Club now hopes to take new and bold steps forward. Specifically, we expect to dramatically increase participation amongst former players (right now less than 5% of ex-Tigers are active in the Gridiron Club). With your help, we can continue our rise to the top of the national ranks.
Thanks again for your loyalty and
support. I look forward to seeing
you this fall.
Go Tigers.
