TIGER GOLFERS WRAP UP FALL WITH FOURTH-PLACE FINISH AT TED KELLER

GLEN ALLEN, VA (October 24, 2004)—Hampden-Sydney College’s golf team wrapped up its 2004 fall season with a fourth-place finish in the 12-team Ted Keller Invitational at Hunting Hawk Golf Club on Sunday.  Tiger sophomore Andrew Mitakides (Dayton, OH/Centerville) paced the team with a seventh-place finish overall after rounds of 78 and 75 to finish with a two-day total of 153. 

Junior Mike Kelly (Alexandria, VA/Gonzaga) finished 11th at 155 (76-79), while junior Nathan Huff (Indiatlantic, FL/Cocoa Beach) finished 21st at 159 (77-82).  Freshmen Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) and Nick Combs (Newport News, VA/Menchville) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers as Boykin finished in 28th at 162 (81-81), while Combs was 36th at 165 (81-84). 

Bridgewater won the event with a team score of 609, followed by Randolph-Macon’s “A” team at 614, Washington and Lee at 615, Hampden-Sydney at 629 and Randolph-Macon’s “B” team at 631.  Virginia Wesleyan (640), Roanoke (641), Ferrum (644), Averett (646), Lynchburg (670), Apprentice (695) and Shenandoah (701) finished sixth through 12th overall.  Bridgewater’s Shawn Harper won medalist honors as he finished with a two-day score of 143 (67-76). 

Hampden-Sydney’s golf team returns to action in the spring as the Tigers participate in the Smith Mountain Lake Invitational on March 7, 2005.
