TIGER GOLFERS FINISH FOURTH ON SCARLET COURSE AT CAMP LEJUNE

CAMP LEJUNE, NC (April 1, 2006)—Hampden-Sydney’s golf team finished fourth on the Scarlet Course at the Camp Lejune Intercollegiate Sunday as the Tigers finished with a final day team score of 294.  The event was divided on the final day with the one set of 16 squads competing on the par 72, 7,033-yard Gold Course and the other 14 squads on the par 70, 6,022-yard Scarlet layout.  Sophomore Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) led the way with an 11th-place finish after a final round 71, while sophomore Rob Shrader (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) led the way over the first two rounds with a 34th-place finish at 146 after rounds of 74 and 69. 

During the first two days of competition, Shrader’s season low 69 paced the Tigers to a second round score of 294 and lifted the team past ODAC-foe Lynchburg College.  Boykin followed up Shrader with a rounds of 79 and 71 to end the first two days at 150.  Andrew Gibbs (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) and Doug LaBrosse (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) finished at 158 (82-76) and 159 (80-79) respectively, while Matt Treacy (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) rounded out the scoring for the Tigers at 167 (89-78). 

Boykin and Shrader again paced the squad during the final round with scores of 71 and 73 respectively, while Matt Treacy shot a season-low 74 as Doug LaBrosse shot a 76 and Andrew Gibbs a 79.

Slippery Rock won the Scarlet event with a team score of 286, followed by Millersville (287), Fayetteville State (289), Hampden-Sydney (294) and West Chester (294).

The Tiger golf team returns to the links for its final match of the regular season, April 6-7, as the squad squares off against cross-county Division I foe Longwood University.
