TIGER GOLFERS FALL TO LONGWOOD, 563-602

FARMVILLE, VA (April 7, 2006)—Longwood University defeated Hampden-Sydney College, 563-602, Friday in the annual 36-hole Challenge Match at the Longwood University Golf Course.  Sophomore Nick Combs (Newport News, VA/Menchville) led the way with a fifth-place finish for the Tigers. 

Longwood recorded team scores of 277 and 286 for a two-day total of 563 (3 over par), while the Tigers finished at 602 with scores of 303 and 299.  Combs paced the Tiger "A" team as he finished fifth individually after recording back-to-back rounds of 74 (148), while classmate Rob Shrader (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) finished sixth after rounds of 74 and 75 (149).   

Sophomore Andrew Gibbs (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) finished in a tie for ninth at 155 (77-78), followed by sophomore Matt Treacy (Ashland, VA/Patrick Henry) in 11th at 156 (77-79) and sophomore Bob Boykin (Virginia Beach, VA/Cox) in 14th at 162 (89-73). 

Senior Doug LaBrosse (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Catholic) paced the "B" squad with rounds of 77 and 75 (152), followed by sophomore Rodes Boyd (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) at 161 (81-80), freshman Brandon Clapp (Bristol, TN/Tennessee) at 162 (84-78), freshman Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) at 166 (84-82) and senior Nathan Huff (Indiatlantic, FL/Cocoa Beach) at 169 (84-85).

Longwood senior Kevin Johnson earned medalist honors as he finished at eight under par 132 after rounds of 67 and 65. 

The H-SC/Longwood Challenge wraps up the 2005-06 regular season for the Tigers, who will finish the year at the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament at Poplar Grove Country Club in Amherst, VA, April 22-23.
