GREENSBORO, NC (October 29, 2008)--Hampden-Sydney freshman Ronnie Fultz (Fieldale, VA/Carlisle School) fired a two-day total of 163 (79-84) to lead the Tiger golfers to a 12th-place finish in the Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The entire field battled blustery conditions on day two of the event, which featured seven of NCAA Division III's top-25 teams according to the Golf World/NIKE Golf Division III Coaches Poll.

Ten of Division III's last 15 national champions were also in the field. Second-ranked Methodist, fourth-ranked Oglethorpe and sixth-ranked Guilford made this one of Division III's top fall tournaments. Rhodes is the nation's 11th-ranked team in the poll.

The Tigers shot 325-341-666 en route to finishing 12th.

Fultz's effort was good enough for a 32nd-place tie. Fultz was followed by teammates Chason Trahan (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg) and Sam Wallace (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) who each shot a 36-hole total of 168 (T-46). Senior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) mustered a 169 (81-88) for the tournament while Michael Dowd (Richmond, VA/Collegiate) rounded out the Hampden-Sydney team effort with a 177 (85-92).

Methodist University captured its fifth Tom and Bettie O'Briant Memorial. The Monarchs placed three students among the top-five finishers in the 73-student field to outdistance the Oglethorpe University by 26 strokes. Tournament host Guilford College shot 302-324-626 and shared third place among 14 teams with Rhodes College (305-321-626).

The Monarchs' Josh Schrader claimed medalist honors, his first career tournament victory, after firing a blistering 72-71-143. Teammate Matt Bova placed second with a two-day total of 148.
