ODAC FOY Fultz paces Tigers; Fultz and Adams named second team All-ODAC

CAPE CHARLES, VA (April 21, 2009)--Freshman Ronnie Fultz (Fieldale, VA/Carlisle School) shot a three-day total of 244 (81-81-82) and senior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) bounced back from a round one 88 to notch an 80 on each of the final two days to lead Hampden-Sydney to a seventh-place finish in the 2009 ODAC Championship held at Bay Creek Golf Club in Cape Charles, Virginia.

Fultz, the top Tiger finisher at Bay Creek, placed 14th in the 40-man field and was named the 2009 ODAC Freshman of the Year in addition to being named second team All-ODAC.

For the season, Fultz led Hampden-Sydney with seven top-20 finishes in nine events and registered a team-low average of 77.3 strokes-per-round.

Fultz posted one top-five finish at the Camp Lejeune Scarlet Intercollegiate, where he also recorded his season-low round of 68, and a pair of top-tens, including a sixth-place finish at the Virginia State Championship held on October 12-13, 2008.

He was the top Hampden-Sydney player in six of the team's nine tournaments during the 2008-2009 campaign.

Adams, who tallied a three-day total of 248 to finish alone in 22nd place at the Championships, also garnered second team All-ODAC accolades.

Adams recorded a team-high four rounds of par or lower and a team-high three top-10 finishes, which included back-to-back top-seven finishes to open the season at the Manor Intercollegiate and Ted Keller Invitational.

The highlight of Adams' season came at the Camp Lejeune Scarlet Intercollegiate where he posted a second-place finish and three-day score of one-over par in leading the Tigers to the tournament title.

The Tigers' Chason Trahan (Charlotte, NC/South Mecklenburg) placed 24th with a three-day total of 251 (89-80-82).

Britt Parnell (Midlothian, VA/Trinity Episcopal) finished 34th after posting a 256 (86-84-86) and Sam Wallace (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown), an honorable mention All-ODAC selection as well as the Tigers' all-sportsmanship team choice, rounded out Hampden-Sydney's scoring with a 259 (87-84-88).

Washington and Lee erased a six-stroke deficit heading into Monday's final round to shock round two leader Guilford College and claim the 2009 team title. The Generals finished five strokes ahead of the Quakers after firing a tournament-low 309 on the final day of competition.

Roanoke College, Bridgewater College and Randolph-Macon rounded out the top-five team finishers.

Guilford's Peter Latimer won medalist honors with a dominating three-day performance. Latimer fired an opening round 73 and closed the tournament with identical second and third rounds of 76 to finish at plus-nine for the weekend, ten strokes ahead of second place finisher Adam Skaff of Roanoke (+19).
