STRONG ROUND TWO PROPELS GOLFERS TO FOURTH PLACE FINISH

H-SC freshman Fultz again low man; Adams, Stubbe make big day two pushes

ASHLAND, VA (October 14, 2008)--The Hampden-Sydney golf team received clutch second round performances from freshman Ronnie Fultz (Fieldale, VA/Carlisle School), senior Richard Adams (Great Falls, VA/Heights School) and sophomore Nick Stubbe (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) en route to a fourth-place finish in the Virginia State Golf Championships held at Hanover Country Club in Ashland, Virginia.

On the final day of the two-day event, Fultz notched a four-over 75, Adams a five-over 76 and Stubbe a team-low, two-over 73 to help Hampden-Sydney rebound from a tough first round and climb four spots in the team standings. Fultz, who posted the top Hampden-Sydney individual score in last week's Hampden-Sydney Invitational, followed up his 19th-place finish at The Manor Resort with a sixth-place finish in the Championships, firing a 155 for the event.

Stubbe shook off a first round 93 to shoot the lowest individual score of all five Tiger entries on day two (73). This marked the second consecutive tournament in which Stubbe posted the team's lowest individual score, as last week, Stubbe fired a second round 76 to lead H-SC. Stubbe concluded the tournament in a tie for 33rd position with a two-day total of 166.

Adams made a seven-shot improvement on day two, rebounding from an 83 on Monday's round to score his second day 76. Adams hot day two earned him a tie for 16th-place overall with a 159.

Britt Parnell (Midlothian, VA/Trinity Episcopal) shot a 168 (80-88) to secure a tie for 37th-place while Sam Wallace (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) rounded out the Tiger scoring with a 39th-place finish after shooting a 169 (86-83).

Randolph-Macon's Ralston King scored medalist honors with a blistering two-over 144 (71-73), taking the individual victory by eight strokes over second-place finisher Mike Redwood from Bridgewater College. The Eagles (318-301-619) did capture the team title, however, besting runner-up Roanoke College by ten strokes (629). Randolph-Macon (634), Averett University (636) and Hampden-Sydney (636) consisted of the top-five.

The Tiger golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday, October 27-28 when it travels to Greensboro, North Carolina and The Cardinal Country Club to participate in the Tom O'Briant Invitational.
