LAX Tigers Trounce Greensboro 13-8 HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Sean McChesney (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s Belfield), Thomas Jennings (Murfreesboro, TN/Webb School), and Ryan Harrington (Dallas, TX/Plano) scored three goals apiece to lead the Hampden-Sydney lacrosse team past Greensboro College 13-8. Senior captain Sean McChesney also added three assists for a total of six points on the day and leads the Tigers in total assists with 16. McChesney is also tied with Jennings for the most goals scored (19) and leads the team in total points with 35. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 5-3 overall and remain 2-1 in the ODAC while Greensboro drops to 5-4. Greensboro College freshman Kenny Jordan (Linthicum, MD/Mt. St Joseph) found the net first to give The Pride an early 1-0 lead. Hampden-Sydney responded with back-to-back goals in less than 10 seconds by freshman Kelly Mattie (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s-Belfield) and sophomore midfielder Thomas Jennings to pull ahead 2-1. Both teams traded goals back and forth for a 4-3 Tiger lead at the end of the first period. Hampden-Sydney opened up the game in the second period with a flurry of goals from Vince Smith (Palmyra, VA/ST.Anne’s-Belfield), Thomas Jennings, William Shell (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephens), and Ryan Harrington to give the Tigers an 8-3 lead. Greensboro responded as Matt Perry (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug) scored with 40 seconds left in the half to bring the score to 8-4 at the break. The Pride opened up the third period with a goal from junior Jon Murphy (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford) but was quickly answered by Tiger attack Sean McChesney. Greensboro kept attacking as Chris Gramm (Norwell, MA/Norwell) cut the Tiger lead to 9-6. Hampden-Sydney started to feel the pressure and retaliated with three consecutive goals by Smith, McChesney, and Harrington pushing the score to 12-6. The Pride made one final run with two goals of their own from Ian Montgomery (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary’s Hall) and Jason Momenthy (Oak Prk, IL/Oak Park) but Hampden-Sydney sophomore Thomas Jennings sealed the deal for H-SC with his third goal of the game at the 1:15 mark for a final score of 13-8. Hampden-Sydney out shot The Pride 45-27 and won 16-25 face-offs while Greensboro held a slight 36-34 advantage on ground balls. In front of the net for the Tigers, senior goalkeeper Jeremy Bull (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) racked up 11 saves while Greensboro goalie Corey Reina chalked up 11 saves of his own.
