Tiger Lacrosse Crush Quakers, 21-4

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – Hampden-Sydney College’s lacrosse team had 13 different players score en route to a 21-4 conference win over Guilford College.  Hampden-Sydney improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC while Guilford slips to 3-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. 

Senior midfielder Kevin Burke (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) opened the game up with his first goal of the season at the 11:19 mark followed by a goal from freshman attack Ryan Niland (Arnold, MD/Mercersburg), who made his first collegiate start in the absence of Eamon Thornton.  William Shell (Alexandria, Va/St. Stephen’s), Collin Dunn (Chevy Chase, MD/Trinity Pawling), and Ryan Harrington (Dallas, TX/Plano) all found the net to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period.        

Harrington scored his second goal of the day 28 seconds into the second period to extend the Tigers’ lead to 6-0.  Guilford finally answered with a man-up goal by junior Bryan Borchard (Franklin, MA/Westwood) at 10:36 and another goal by teammate Preston Gilbert (Kennebunk, ME/Cheverus) to bring the score to 6-2.

Harrington scored again for the Tigers to bring his total to three on the day followed by Dunn’s second goal just seven seconds later for a halftime score of 8-2.     

Hampden-Sydney broke open the game with eight straight goals in the third period to give H-SC a commanding 16-2 lead.  Guilford finally stopped the bleeding as Matt Del Olmo (Barrington, IL/Barrington) scored with 1:35 left in the third making it 16-3.

The Tigers continued to pour it on as they outscored the Quakers 5-1 in the final period for a final score of 21-4.

Hampden-Sydney out shot Guilford 53-22, held the advantage in ground balls 62-45, and won 18-29 face-offs.

In the goal, H-SC senior Jeremy Bull (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) racked up six saves while Greg Frankoski (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) had four and Scott Russell (Darien, CT/Darien) had one.  For Guilford, Andrew Vigne had a game high 14 saves while Andrew Bond had two and Ian McPhail had one.       

Hampden-Sydney returns to action on Tuesday, April 5th as they host Greensboro in a non-conference match up starting at 3:30 pm.
