Hampden-Sydney Lacrosse Falls to 7th Ranked Roanoke 11-9 SALEM, VA – Hampden-Sydney College’s 17th ranked lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 Old Dominion Athletic Conference game to seventh ranked Roanoke College. Despite Hampden-Sydney goalkeeper Jeremy Bull’s season high 19 saves, the Tigers slip to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC while Roanoke improves to 6-1 and 1-0 in league play. Finding the net first was Roanoke midfielder Chris Keating (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) at the 9:59 mark. Hampden-Sydney responded with three straight goals. Starting the rally was defenseman John Pritzlaff (Castlerock, CO/Kent Denver) with his first goal of the season on a perfect give and go play with teammate Michael Via (Virginia Beach, VA/Norfolk Academy) to tie the game 1-1. Thomas Jennings (Murfreesboro, TN/Webb School) scored next for the Tigers with the first of his four goals. Jennings has scored four goals in two consecutive games for the Tigers and added one assist. Pritzlaff contributed to the offense again as he set up senior attack man Sean McChesney (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne’s-Belfield) to give the Tigers a 3-1 advantage. Roanoke quickly answered back with four straight goals of their own to pull ahead 5-3 with 10:47 remaining in the first half. Hampden-Sydney got another three-goal-run from Ryan Harrington (Dallas, TX/Plano), Thomas Jennings, and Michael Via to regain the lead 6-5. With time winding down in the second period, Roanoke senior Dan Reed (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) scored for the Maroons with just 19 ticks left to lock the score at six heading into the half. The Maroons came out of the half fired up as Adam Leahy (Cohasset, Ma/Williston Northampton) and Jon Mason (Orangeville, ONT, Canada/Orangeville) rattled off two quick goals to pull ahead 8-6. Hampden-Sydney’s Michael Via and Thomas Jennings responded with two goals of their own to tie the game at eight with 10:16 left in the third. After both teams remained scoreless for nearly eight straight minutes, Roanoke broke the game open with three consecutive goals for an 11-8 lead with 7:37 to go in the game. H-SC made one final run as midfielder Thomas Jennings scored his fourth goal of the game with 5:56 left to bring the Tigers with two, but that would be as close as Hampden-Sydney would come. Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game resulting in a final score of 11-9. Roanoke out shot H-SC 48-36 and had the advantage on ground balls 55-39 while Hampden-Sydney won 13 of 22 face-offs. Senior goalkeeper for the Tigers, Jeremy Bull, put on a clinic in the goal with 19 saves while Roanoke goalie Matt Madalon (Darien, CT/Darien) chalked up 12 of his own. Hampden-Sydney returns to action on Wed, March 30 in Norfolk, VA as the Tigers take on Virginia Wesleyan in another Old Dominion Athletic Conference match up.
