H-SC LAX PLACES FOUR ON ALL-ODAC SQUAD (May 5, 2009) SALEM, VA - In one of the most competitive years in the ODAC, Hampden-Sydney was able to place four players on All Conference teams, including two players on the First Team. Juniors Kyle Jett (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) and Daniel Martin (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) were the two Tigers to garner First Team honors. Joining them on the Second Team is senior Andrew Mahoney (Littleton, CO/Littleton). Rookie Micah Keller (Richmond, VA/Christchurch) also took home Honorable Mention accolades. Jett earned First Team honors in the midfield after his best season in a Tiger uniform. He began the season mainly as a distributor leading the team in assists for most of the season. The junior then showed the ODAC he is a great scoring threat as well tying a team-high 34 goals on the year. Jett earned ODAC Player of the Week honors after scoring eight goals in two games. He also had back-to-back five goal games. His 34 goals were added by 20 assists giving him a total of 54 points on the season, which is good for second all-time for a Hampden-Sydney midfielder. Defenseman Daniel Martin also had a breakout season in 2009. The junior was often given the duty of marking the opponent's best attackman. He has a lethal combination of size, speed, and stick skills, and uses all three to shut down opposing offenses. Also, being the long stick with the most experience on the young Tiger squad, he often had to anchor the defense. He came up with 38 groundballs on the year and also pitched in one goal. Mahoney made the Second Team for his career year in the Tiger attack. Mahoney led the team in points (55), assists (21), and tied the team-high in goals (34). Only one of four seniors on the 2009 roster, Mahoney was depended upon to lead the team and start the offense, and he did just that with his speed and accurate shot. Keller started his career off with a bang earning Honorable Mention honors as a freshman attackman. One of the most elusive attackmen in the league with his phenomenal stick skills, he was the third leading scorer with 32 goals while adding seven assists. Keller also had a six goal game in the Tigers' ODAC Quarterfinal win over Randolph-Macon. The full All-Conference teams can be seen below:
