H-SC LAX ANNOUNCES NEWCOMERS FOR 2009 FALL

(June 9, 2009) HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney College head lacrosse coach Ray Rostan has released the list of incoming freshmen and one transfer student set to report for the 2009 fall lacrosse season. The 13 new faces will join the bulk of the 2009 team that only lost four seniors to try and win the school's fifth Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship. In order to comply with NCAA rules, the list of recruits includes only those student-athletes who have made deposits on tuition and are set to report in August for the fall season and classes.  The list includes players from eight states, including Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia.

"Our coaching staff is very pleased with this strong group of freshmen and one junior transfer," said Rostan. "Although graduating only four seniors, we expect that several of the newcomers have the work ethic and ability to earn contributing roles very early in the year. I am thankful to our assistant coaches Jason Rostan and Jake Plunket for their year-round efforts in the recruiting process. Our staff is also thankful for the efforts of many members of our present team for their important roles in attracting these young men; their effort displays a 'team first' attitude that speaks to the character of our present student-athletes."

With nine starters returning in 2010, the Tigers will look to improve upon a fourth place finish in the ODAC this past season. Their ODAC Tournament run was ended just short of the championship game as they fell in a semi final heartbreaker to top-seeded and #1 nationally Roanoke College.
