From start to finish Hampden-Sydney athletics had an outstanding year with not one losing record, compiling an overall record of 90-37-1 (70.3%) between football, soccer, basketball, baseball, lacrosse and tennis. Hampden-Sydney's winning percentage was the best in the men's division in the recent Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey. The survey ranks all 27 non-NCAA Division I schools in the state by overall winning percentage. The 70.3% winning percentage was helped in great part by football, soccer, and lacrosse who all had their best records in program history. This past year marked the highest winning percentage in school history while it marks the first time Hampden-Sydney has won the men's division. While winning the men's division, the Tigers finished second overall, trailing behind Christopher Newport, which won 72% of all of its contests. Following the Tiger's in the overall percentage was Virginia Wesleyan (61.4%), Mary Washington (59.2%), and Lynchburg (59%).

Hampden-Sydney head football coach Marty Favret has released the list of 39 incoming freshmen set to report to for the 2010 season. The new faces will join the bulk of last year's team to try and defend the Tigers' 2009 undefeated ODAC Championship season. In order to comply with NCAA rules, the list of recruits includes only those student-athletes who have made deposits on tuition and are set to report in August for football camp and classes. The list includes players from six states, including North Carolina, Texas, Maryland, South Carolina and Georgia, while 26 players are in-state recruits. "We’re thrilled about the football class of 2014," said Favret. "We feel we’ve improved ourselves on both sides of the ball with some size and a host of playmakers. Though we have an experienced group returning this fall, I’d be surprised if some of these freshmen don’t contribute immediately.”

After one of the most successful seasons in program history with a 10-0 regular season, an ODAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Playoffs, head coach Marty Favret and the Tigers are now gearing up for 2010 to try and defend their title. The four captains have been named for this upcoming fall. Two time captain and fifth-year senior Ty Condrey will be joined by seniors Trevor Ikwild and Will Riggenbach and junior Ben Rogers. Condrey, after having to sit out nearly the entire 2008 season with a variety of injuries, was a staple on an impressive defensive line for the Tigers this past season registering 30 tackles while 6.5 of those were for loss of a combined 28 yards. He also recorded one sack for eight yards and recovered one fumble.
