TIGERS PLACE SEVEN ON ALL-ODAC, MOSS WINS POY AND SAOY SALEM, VA (April 29, 2009)–The Hampden-Sydney tennis team was not only awarded for their hard work with an ODAC Championship, but also with seven players on the All-ODAC team. Junior Will Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg) not only was a first team All-ODAC selection, but he also garnered his third consecutive Player of the Year honor and his first Scholar Athlete of the Year. Moss combined his 3.56 GPA with his overall 12-2 record on the year to win two of the ODAC’s major awards. In the conference, Moss has been nearly untouchable with a 7-1 record for his singles play. He has also added a 9-5 overall record for doubles, and he is also 7-1 in ODAC play in doubles. Joining Moss on the first team in singles are Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) for No. 2 singles, Kevin Calhoun (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) at the No. 4 spot, and No. 6 Philip Parrish (Richmond, VA/Douglas Freeman). Pugh compiled an overall singles record of 9-1 and 4-0 in ODAC play. Calhoun amassed a 12-6 record on the year and was 8-1 in the conference. Parrish remained unblemished all year with a 14-0 overall record and a 7-0 conference mark. Moss and Pugh also teamed up to earn first team honors for No. 1 doubles play. Joining them on the first team are Calhoun and Shad Harrell (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin). Moss and Pugh went 10-4 on the year and 5-1 in the ODAC while Calhoun and Harrell went 14-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play. Three more Tigers joined the All-ODAC squad with second team honors. Harrell garnered second team honors for his No. 3 singles play with a 12-5 overall and 7-1 conference mark. Zack Pack (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry) received honors at the No. 5 singles spot. Pack went 10-5 overall on the year and 5-1 in the ODAC. He also teamed up with Tal Covington (Gainesville, VA/Flint Hill School) to earn second team honors in No. 3 doubles. The two went 3-5 on the year, but had a solid conference run at 3-1. With their stellar year that continues into the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers placed a player on either the first or second team for every spot. The complete All-ODAC team can be seen below.
