TENNIS TIGERS PICKED SECOND IN ODAC PRESEASON POLL

SALEM, VA (February 19, 2009)– Hampden-Sydney's tennis team was tagged with the second position in the 2009 ODAC Men's Tennis Coaches Poll. The Tigers received 90 votes, placing them behind defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee, who received all ten first place votes and collected 100 points overall to claim the top spot in the poll.

Hampden-Sydney nearly won the conference last year, as they fell just short in the finals. They were defeated by Washington & Lee, who earned their 28th Championship. The Tigers will stand behind junior standout William Moss (Fredericksburg, VA/Fredericksburg). Moss has won the past two ODAC Player of the Year awards as well as earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2007. In two years, he has yet to lose an ODAC regular season match. Hampden-Sydney will also look for reigning ODAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-ODAC honoree Rich Pugh (Augusta, GA/Lakeside) to have another stellar year for the Tigers.

The Tigers ended 2008 14-2 and ranked as high as No. 14 in the ITA Atlantic South Region rankings.
